Online Stores for Mithila Art
A catalogue of paintings, papier-mâché and textiles, with the artist’s name, size and story on each item. Buyers in Nepal pay by eSewa, Khalti or Fonepay, and buyers abroad by card through your bank’s gateway.
Hiring a web developer in Janakpur? I’m Ujjwal Rupakheti, a full-stack developer and SEO specialist in Itahari, about 190 km east by road. For 3+ years I’ve built websites, online stores and SaaS in Nepal. Janakpur hotels, dharmashalas, Mithila art sellers, schools and traders work with me online, in Nepali or English.
The Janakpur market
Janakpurdham Sub-Metropolitan City in Dhanusha District had 194,556 residents at the 2021 census. It served as the temporary capital of Province No. 2, and on 17 January 2022 the provincial assembly made it the permanent capital and named the province Madhesh. Provincial ministries, a Nepal Rastra Bank provincial office and colleges such as Ramswarup Ramsagar Multiple Campus, Rajarshi Janak University and Janaki Medical College are all here.
Faith runs the rest of the calendar. The Janaki Mandir, built by Queen Vrisha Bhanu of Tikamgarh around the turn of the twentieth century and now on UNESCO’s Tentative List, stands beside the Vivah Mandap, where the wedding of Ram and Sita is remembered. The city has more than 200 sacred ponds, with Dhanush Sagar and Ganga Sagar the best known.
Since April 2022, passenger trains have run again from Jaynagar in Bihar through Janakpur to Kurtha, and Janakpur Airport has flights to Kathmandu. Maithili is the everyday language, Mithila painting is the local art, and the Bhittamod border with India is about 23 km away. Tourism, farming and local industry make up most of the economy.

Hotels & dharmashalas
Most visitors are Indian pilgrims from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh and further away. The Kathmandu Post found that they come in largest numbers from December to mid-February, that hotels and dharmashalas fill up, and that many stay only one day. The same report described a bus driver who spent an hour looking for his group’s dharmashala, because the city has so few signs.
Both problems can be solved online. A clear page and an exact map pin get the bus to your gate. A page that suggests a second day, with the sagars and a trip to Dhanushadham, gives a family a reason to book another night with you.

Search behaviour
Three groups search very differently. Pilgrims plan from India on a phone, in Hindi or English, then open Google Maps once they arrive. Residents search in Nepali, Maithili or Romanised Nepali for a school, a clinic or a shop near a chowk. Buyers abroad search in English for Mithila or Madhubani paintings, often without knowing Janakpur by name.
So one site may need Hindi or English pages for visitors, Nepali pages for local customers and English product pages for export buyers, each marked up so Google shows the right one. When I research search terms here, the results for “web developer in Janakpur” are mostly directory listings, a sign that few local businesses have strong pages of their own yet.
What I build
The Janakpur Women’s Development Centre has trained local women in Mithila painting for more than three decades and has sold their work to buyers in America and Europe. That market now starts with a search, and so do most others in the city.
A catalogue of paintings, papier-mâché and textiles, with the artist’s name, size and story on each item. Buyers in Nepal pay by eSewa, Khalti or Fonepay, and buyers abroad by card through your bank’s gateway.
Room types, group rates, food, distance to the temple and a booking button on every page, with Hotel structured data so Google can show your details beside the map.
For priests, tour operators and larger hotels: real dates, a deposit by eSewa or Khalti, and a confirmation on WhatsApp, so a family from Patna can plan their visit before they set out.
Admissions, notices, results and doctor schedules that your own staff update, in Nepali and English, with an enquiry form that reaches the office on WhatsApp.

Case study: Hotel AarohiA hotel website with a room catalogue, booking enquiries and local SEO pages, for a hotel in Chandrapur, Rautahat, also in Madhesh Province.

Case study: GuruSangaA booking platform, built for a client from a Figma design, where people book a verified pandit or astrologer for a real slot and pay by eSewa or Khalti QR.

Local SEO
Most Janakpur searches end on Google Maps, not on a website. These are the fixes I make first for a hotel, dharmashala, shop or school in the city.
| Fix | What I do | Why it matters in Janakpur |
|---|---|---|
| Map pin | Place the pin on your gate, not the lane, and add a landmark such as a sagar or the temple | Buses and rickshaws follow the pin, and the city has few street signs |
| Business name | Your real name in Nepali and English letters, used the same way everywhere | Visitors type it in Hindi, English or Romanised Nepali |
| Photos & hours | Real rooms, the dining hall and the entrance, plus festival opening hours | Groups choose on the spot, from photos, during the busy season |
| Reviews | A short WhatsApp link your staff send each group before it leaves | One-day visitors forget to review unless they are asked that day |
| Festival pages | A page for Vivah Panchami and Ram Navami, updated each year, live weeks ahead | Families plan their trip around these dates |
Each step is in my Google Business Profile guide for Nepal. For a full campaign, see SEO expert in Nepal or start with an SEO audit.
Working together
I work remotely and travel only within Koshi Province, so Janakpur projects run online from start to finish, the same way as my website development across Nepal. Calls happen on WhatsApp or video, in Nepali or English, and you check progress on a preview link every week. You pay in stages, by eSewa, Khalti or bank transfer, against a fixed written quote.

Pricing
Prices are the same across Nepal: websites from NPR 18,000, online stores and booking from NPR 60,000, SaaS from NPR 70,000 and SEO audits from NPR 15,000. A dharmashala usually fits the first tier; an art studio selling abroad needs a store.

Domain, hosting, translation, payment-gateway fees and paid plugins are extra. Every starting price is on services and pricing, and the website cost guide for Nepal explains what moves a quote.
Pilgrim stays, Mithila art, schools, search and working online.
Ask me on WhatsAppA static site with rooms, photos, directions and WhatsApp booking starts at NPR 18,000 and takes 1 to 2 weeks. A larger hotel that edits its own pages starts at NPR 35,000, and online booking with a deposit starts at NPR 60,000. Domain and hosting are extra, and the quote is fixed in writing.
Yes. Each painting or product gets its own page with the artist, size, materials and price, and Product structured data so Google understands it. Buyers in Nepal pay by eSewa, Khalti or Fonepay, and buyers abroad by card where your bank offers a gateway. Stores start at NPR 60,000.
Mostly through Google Maps and simple searches such as a hotel near Janaki Mandir, typed in Hindi or English. A complete Google profile with an exact pin, real photos and recent reviews does most of the work. A fast page with group rates and directions then turns a search into a booking.
It depends on who pays you. Pilgrim stays usually need Hindi or English pages first, local shops and schools need Nepali, and art sellers need English for buyers abroad. I build separate language versions with hreflang tags, so Google shows each visitor the right one. You or a translator supply the extra text.
Yes. Online booking with real dates, a deposit by eSewa or Khalti and a WhatsApp confirmation starts at NPR 60,000. I built GuruSanga for a client, a platform where people book a verified pandit or astrologer for a real time slot and pay by QR, so the pattern is tested.
No. I work remotely from Itahari and travel only within Koshi Province, so Janakpur projects run on WhatsApp, video calls and weekly preview links. Your Google profile, Search Console and website are all managed online, and you take photos from my shot list, so distance changes very little in practice.
Yes. A school site with admissions, notices, results and a gallery that your staff update starts at NPR 35,000. I also worked on Prishta at Ektukra Digital Agency, CAS and report card software for Nepali schools, so I understand how school offices handle marks and notices.
Fixing a wrong pin, category or missing hours can change your Maps visibility within weeks. Ranking for wider searches, such as hotels in Janakpur or Mithila paintings online, usually takes 3 to 6 months of steady pages, photos and reviews. Starting before the December season gives the work time to show.
Send your Google Maps link or website and tell me who you want more of: pilgrims, local customers or buyers abroad. I answer within one working day, usually with a few questions first.
