The Jitpur Simara market
Kalaiya runs Bara’s offices and farm trade. Jitpur Simara, in the north of the same district, is where the district’s industry, freight and air travel meet.
Jitpur Simara Sub-Metropolitan City was formed on 10 March 2017 by merging Gadhimai Municipality, Inarwasira and Amlekhganj with parts of neighbouring areas. It had 127,307 residents at the 2021 census, spread over 24 wards and about 310 km², and about 60% of its land is still farmed.
Its weight comes from what passes through. The Tribhuvan Highway runs south from the Pathlaiya junction to the Sirsiya check post in Birgunj, and factories along the Birgunj–Pathlaiya corridor make steel, cement, textiles, plastics, aluminium and pharmaceuticals. Simara Airport, the closest airport to Kathmandu by air, has flights of about 20 minutes to the capital.
Two newer pieces matter too. The Motihari–Amlekhganj pipeline, opened in September 2019 as South Asia’s first cross-border petroleum pipeline, carries fuel 69 km from Bihar to Nepal Oil Corporation’s depot here. And in the Simara Special Economic Zone, six factories had started commercial production by May 2026, expected to employ about 700 people, with more than a dozen more firms setting up.

Search behaviour
Three groups look for businesses here, and almost none of them are searching for a shop down the road. When I check “web developer in Jitpur Simara” itself, no local developer has a page, only national directories.
Procurement staff and distributors in Kathmandu, Birgunj and across the Terai search in English for a product plus “manufacturer in Nepal”, then compare specifications.
New factories need workers, and people search on a phone, in Nepali or Romanised Nepali, for openings, shifts and who to call. A careers page answers before they ask.
Passengers off a flight and drivers on the highway search Google Maps for a taxi, a meal, a room or a mechanic near the airport or the Pathlaiya junction.
Local SEO
Jitpur Simara is a new city made from older places, and that confuses maps and searches. These are the fixes I make first for a business here.

I work remotely and travel only within Koshi Province, so I don’t visit factories in Bara. Both are in Bara, but they sell to different people. Kalaiya’s schools, clinics and traders mostly serve the district, so local search and Google Maps matter most. Jitpur Simara’s factories sell to buyers elsewhere and hire locally, so product pages, careers pages and B2B search matter more.
