Nepalgunj: A Border City, an Air Hub and a Hospital Town
Three kinds of traffic meet in Nepalgunj: goods from India, people flying north into the mountains, and patients travelling in for treatment. Each brings customers who search before they arrive.
Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City is in Banke District, Lumbini Province, facing Rupaidiha in Uttar Pradesh across the border. At the 2021 census, 164,444 people lived in its 23 wards. Goods clear at an Integrated Check Post that India built and handed over in 2024, and local traders have long described the city as the supply hub for the districts of the mid and far west.
Nepalgunj Airport, about 6 km north of the centre, links the Terai to mountain airstrips such as Jumla, Simikot, Dolpa and Rara. In July 2025 the Kathmandu Post reported 82 flights between Nepalgunj and Simikot in a single day, carrying Kailash Mansarovar pilgrims who then take helicopters to Hilsa, and nearly 600 visitors staying in the city’s hotels.
Health care is the third draw. Bheri Hospital sees patients from Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces and from neighbouring districts of Uttar Pradesh, and Nepalgunj Medical College, founded in 1996, runs its teaching hospital in Kohalpur.

Hotels & Travel Agencies
Pilgrim groups and their organisers compare Nepalgunj hotels weeks before the season, often in English or Hindi. Room pages with real photos and rates, airport pickup details and a booking enquiry on every page win those bookings. Agencies selling Kailash or Rara trips need a page per package, with dates and what the price includes.
Patients come from the hills and from across the border, so the facts have to be easy to find in their language: doctors and departments, OPD days, test prices, directions from the bus park or the border, and a phone that is answered. Hindi versions of the key pages help families from Uttar Pradesh.
A retailer in Kohalpur or Surkhet usually orders from whoever answers fastest. A catalogue with brands and pack sizes, dealer prices behind a login and orders that arrive as a clean list save hours of calls. Customs and transport agents need a page per service, with the documents each one needs.

SEO in Nepalgunj: Two Spellings, Three Languages
At the 2011 census, 33.7% of residents spoke Nepali as their first language, 30.7% Awadhi and 27.2% Urdu, and visitors from India read Hindi. The city’s name is spelled two ways in English, Nepalgunj and Nepalganj, and two ways in Devanagari: नेपालगन्ज in Nepali and नेपालगंज in Hindi. Google treats these as related, not identical.
So a Nepalgunj page should use the main spelling in its title, mention the other naturally once, and offer a Hindi version where Indian customers matter. Keep the Google profile’s hours exact through the pilgrim season, add photos of rooms and reception, and answer reviews in the language they were written in.
