Website Design in Bhaktapur for Heritage Businesses
I’m Ujjwal Rupakheti, a web developer and SEO specialist in Itahari with 3+ years of building websites for businesses in Nepal. For Bhaktapur’s guesthouses, homestays, potters and craft workshops, I build fast sites that take bookings and orders directly, and I work with you online, in Nepali or English.
Direct bookings alongside your booking-site listings
Bhaktapur is Nepal’s smallest district, about 119 square kilometres, with four municipalities: Bhaktapur, Madhyapur Thimi, Changunarayan and Suryabinayak. Two of the seven monument zones of the Kathmandu Valley World Heritage Site are here, Bhaktapur Durbar Square and Changu Narayan, and foreign visitors pay an entry fee to walk the old city.
That heritage is also an economy. Potters still work their wheels in Pottery Square, Thimi is known for its pottery and painted masks, and juju dhau, the city’s famous curd, is sold in the clay pots the potters make. Guesthouses and homestays fill the old lanes, and Bisket Jatra at the Nepali New Year draws crowds every spring.
Most of the money spent here comes from visitors who chose Bhaktapur before they arrived. That choice happens online, on a phone, often in another country.

What I build
Websites for Bhaktapur Homestays, Workshops and Cafés
A homestay, a pottery studio and a curd shop all live on visitors, but they win them in different ways. Each gets a site built around how its customers decide.

Homestays & Guesthouses
Rooms with real photos and prices, house rules, breakfast, and directions from the airport or the bus park. A booking enquiry goes straight to WhatsApp, so a guest who first found you on a booking site can book you directly next time.
Visitors look for a pottery class or a mask-painting session before they travel. Each class gets its own page with times, group size and price, and finished pieces sell through a catalogue that explains how fragile work is packed and sent.
Day-trippers and foreign visitors choose where to eat from the map, standing in the square. A complete Google Business Profile, a menu that reads well in English and recent reviews decide most of those choices.
The hotel site and travel platform above are public: open Hotel Aarohi on your phone, or browse the HamroYatra front end and its source code.

Search behaviour
How Visitors Search for Bhaktapur Before Arriving
Foreign visitors plan from home, in English, and they compare: a homestay here against a hotel in Thamel, a pottery class in Bhaktapur against one in Thimi, a day trip against a night in the old city. They read reviews on Google, TripAdvisor and booking sites, and more of them now ask ChatGPT to plan the day.
Visitors from inside Nepal behave differently. A family driving in from Kathmandu searches on the way, in Nepali or English, for food, parking and what is open. A good Bhaktapur website serves both: a clear English page for each room, class or menu, and a Google profile that is right when someone searches from the square.
For hospitality, this work has a track record: a hospitality business I worked with reached the Google Maps top 3 within six weeks. Read how in local SEO in Nepal.
Bhaktapur is a long way from Itahari by road and no distance at all on WhatsApp. We plan the site on a video call, you drop photos from your phone into a shared folder, and you watch the site come together on a preview link. Payment is by eSewa, Khalti or bank transfer, in stages, against a fixed written quote.
Language. We work in Nepali or English. For pages in Nepal Bhasa too, you or a writer supply the text and I build the structure for it.
Photos. Phone photos taken in good light are usually enough. I send a shot list for every page.
Visits. Worth planning for a larger guesthouse or a workshop with classes and a shop. We agree the date and travel cost first.

Can a Website Bring My Bhaktapur Homestay Direct Bookings?
Yes, mostly from repeat guests, referrals and people who search your name after seeing you on a booking site. A clear site with rooms, prices and a WhatsApp button gives them a way to book you directly. It works alongside your listings rather than replacing them.
How Much Does a Homestay Website Cost?
A homestay or guesthouse site starts at NPR 18,000 and takes 1 to 2 weeks. It covers your rooms, photos, house rules, directions, a map and booking by WhatsApp. Domain and hosting are extra, and the quote is fixed before I start.
Should I Keep My Booking.com and Airbnb Listings?
Yes. Those platforms bring guests who would never find you otherwise. Your own site matters for the guests who search your name, return or come by word of mouth. Keep your name, address, photos and prices consistent across all of them, because Google compares them.
Can Visitors Book a Pottery or Mask-Painting Class Online?
Yes. Each class gets a page with what visitors make, how long it takes, group size and price, and a booking form that sends the request to your WhatsApp. If you later want paid bookings with a calendar, that becomes a small booking system, quoted per module.
Can I Sell Pottery or Crafts Online from Bhaktapur?
Yes. An online store with eSewa, Khalti and Fonepay starts at NPR 60,000 for buyers in Nepal. For fragile pieces and buyers abroad, a catalogue with enquiry and invoice is often safer, because packing and shipping costs vary with every order.
How Do I Appear on Google Maps Inside the Old City?
Place your pin exactly on your door, not on the nearest road, and name the square or landmark in your address. Then add real photos, opening hours and your menu or rooms, and ask happy guests for reviews. In narrow lanes, a precise pin is half the work.
Do You Work with Businesses in Thimi and Suryabinayak?
Yes. I work across Bhaktapur District, including Madhyapur Thimi, Suryabinayak and Changunarayan, and with guesthouses on the way up to Nagarkot. Thimi’s pottery and mask makers have the same need as the old city’s: pages that visitors can find before they travel.
Can I Have a Website in Nepali, English and Nepal Bhasa?
Yes. I build multilingual sites with a language switch and hreflang tags, so Google shows each visitor the right version. I write and work in Nepali and English; for Nepal Bhasa pages, you or a writer provide the text and I put it in place.
Will the Site Work on Slow Mobile Data?
Yes. Travellers often browse on roaming or a weak signal, so I keep pages light: compressed photos in modern formats, no heavy sliders, and text that appears before the images. I test every site on a throttled connection before launch.
Do I Have to Travel to Itahari?
No. Everything runs on WhatsApp and video calls, and you review the site on a preview link from your own phone. For larger projects I can come to Bhaktapur once we’ve agreed a date and the travel cost. Most homestay sites are finished without us ever meeting in person.
