Website cost in Nepal in 2026 is about NPR 10,000 to 50,000 for a small static site, NPR 30,000 to 1,50,000 for a business site on WordPress or another CMS, and NPR 60,000 to 3,00,000 or more for an online store. With me, these start from NPR 18,000, 35,000 and 60,000. Domain and hosting are extra.
I am Ujjwal Rupakheti, a web developer in Itahari. “How much for a website?” is the first question most business owners ask me. The honest answer has two parts: the build, which you pay once, and the domain, hosting and upkeep, which you pay every year.
The market ranges below are rough guides based on packages and price guides that Nepali agencies and freelancers publish in 2026. They are not a formal survey, and prices vary by city and provider. My own prices match my services pricing table.
What Does Each Type of Website Cost in Nepal?
The type of site sets the price more than anything else. A static site is a set of fixed pages. A CMS site, usually WordPress, lets you edit pages and post news yourself. An online store adds products, a cart and payments. A web app or SaaS adds user accounts, dashboards and business logic.
| Type of website | Typical market range (NPR) | With me (NPR) | Time with me |
|---|---|---|---|
| Static or brochure website | 10,000 to 50,000 | From 18,000 | 1 to 2 weeks |
| Business website with a CMS or WordPress | 30,000 to 1,50,000 | From 35,000 | 2 to 4 weeks |
| Online store with eSewa, Khalti and Fonepay | 60,000 to 3,00,000+ | From 60,000 | 3 to 8 weeks |
| Web app or SaaS, first version | 1,00,000 to 10,00,000+ | From 70,000 | 6 to 12 weeks |
| Redesign of an existing site | Varies with size | Quoted per site | By size |
Build prices exclude the domain, hosting, paid themes or plugins, stock photos and content writing unless a quote says otherwise. Ask whether 13% VAT is included.
Website design cost in Nepal is usually part of these prices. A quote that splits design and development is fine if the two add up to one fixed total.
What Do I Charge for a Website?
My prices start from NPR 18,000 for a static website, NPR 35,000 for a business website with a CMS, NPR 60,000 for an online store and NPR 70,000 for the first version of a web app. Each project gets a fixed price in writing after a short call, so the number we agree is the number you pay.
NPR18,000
Service pages, an enquiry form, WhatsApp and map links. 1 to 2 weeks.
NPR35,000
More pages, a blog and content you edit yourself. 2 to 4 weeks.
NPR60,000
eSewa, Khalti, Fonepay QR and bank transfer, each payment confirmed on the server. 3 to 8 weeks.
NPR70,000
Accounts, dashboards, roles and payments, first version. 6 to 12 weeks. More on SaaS development in Nepal.
- Not included: domain, hosting, paid plugins or themes and stock photos.
- International clients: quoted in USD against a written contract, paid by bank transfer, Wise or PayPal.
Larger platforms, such as the HeliGo Nepal charter marketplace I built with a traveller site, operator portal and admin console, are quoted on their scope. What each package includes is on my page about website development in Nepal.
What Changes the Price of a Website?
Six things move a website quote the most: how many different page layouts you need, who writes the content, which features the site needs, how many languages it uses, whether an old site must be moved, and your deadline. A five-page site with your own text sits near the starting price. A store with hundreds of products does not.
| Factor | Lower cost | Higher cost |
|---|---|---|
| Page layouts | Two or three layouts reused | A unique layout for every page |
| Content | You supply the text and photos | All text written and photos sourced for you |
| Features | Enquiry form, WhatsApp and map | Payments, logins, bookings or stock |
| Languages | English or Nepali only | Both, with a language switch and hreflang |
| Old site | Nothing to move | Posts, products and redirects to migrate |
| Deadline | A normal timeline | A rush launch |
The platform matters too. A static site is cheapest to run, with nothing to update on the server. WordPress needs regular updates, and a custom app needs a server and someone who knows its code.
How Much Does a Domain Cost in Nepal?
A .com.np domain costs nothing. The registry at register.com.np, run by Mercantile Communications, states that registration under .np is free of cost for eligible applicants. A .com, .net or .org domain from a Nepali registrar costs roughly NPR 1,500 to 2,500 a year, and renewal is often higher than the first year.
| Domain | Who can register | Yearly cost (NPR) |
|---|---|---|
| .com.np for a business | Companies, firms and organisations registered in Nepal, for their own name, product, service or brand | Free |
| Personal .com.np | Individuals with Nepali citizenship or another accepted ID, based only on their own name | Free |
| .org.np and .edu.np | Non-profits, and schools, colleges and other educational institutions | Free |
| .com, .net or .org | Anyone, with no documents | About 1,500 to 2,500, renewal often higher |
Who Can Register a .com.np Domain?
The registry accepts local companies and organisations, Nepali citizens, and foreign companies that legally exist in Nepal. A business can only choose a name tied to its own name, product, service or brand. A personal domain must match the applicant’s name on their ID, and a domain made of only a surname or caste name is refused. Government bodies apply for .gov.np through the National Information Technology Center instead.
This site runs on a personal .com.np based on my own name. If you also sell abroad, add a .com that buyers outside Nepal recognise, and redirect one to the other.
How to Register a .com.np Domain, Step by Step
- Search the name on register.com.np and click Register Now if it is free.
- Create an account with your email address and verify it from your inbox.
- Fill in the form with your details and your host’s nameservers. Nameservers must be full names, such as ns1.example.com, not IP addresses.
- Upload clear documents. A business sends its registration certificate and a request letter on letterhead with a stamp and signature. A person sends a citizenship certificate, passport or similar ID. Files go up as images of up to 800 KB.
- Wait for approval, which the registry says usually takes three to four working days, or longer when there is a backlog.
Keep the admin email up to dateSince December 2024 the registry has been reverifying domains to find unused ones, and a domain left in “Reverification” status can be stopped or released. It now also emails the registered administrator 15 days before each domain’s renewal date. A 2025 draft bill proposed fees, but in November 2026 the registry still says registration is free.
How Much Does Web Hosting Cost in Nepal?
Hosting for a small business website in Nepal costs from nothing for a static site on a free host, to roughly NPR 1,800 to 20,000 a year for shared hosting, to NPR 1,500 to 15,000 a month for a private server. The right choice depends on the platform: static, WordPress or a custom app.
| Hosting type | Good for | Approximate cost (NPR) |
|---|---|---|
| Free static hosting, such as GitHub Pages | Static sites that rarely change | Free, but not allowed for online stores or SaaS |
| Shared hosting from a Nepali host | WordPress business sites | About 1,800 to 20,000 a year by plan and term; 13% VAT is often added |
| Shared hosting from an international host | The same sites, paid by dollar card | One large host’s entry plan: about 18,500 upfront for four years, then about 20,000 a year on renewal |
| VPS or cloud server | Online stores, web apps and SaaS | About 1,500 to 15,000 a month |
International prices are converted at about NPR 155 to the US dollar, the Nepal Rastra Bank rate in October 2026, so they rise when the rupee falls.
Billed in Rupees
Many hosts take eSewa, Khalti, Fonepay QR or bank transfer, and support works on Nepal time. Check the VAT and the renewal price.
Billed in Dollars
You need a dollar card, and the rupee cost moves with the exchange rate. Low first prices often need a multi-year prepayment.
The Hotel Aarohi website, a static site I built, is hosted free on GitHub Pages with a custom domain. Nimtto, my wedding invitation SaaS, runs as one Node process with SQLite on a VPS behind Cloudflare, which keeps hosting cheap. Shared hosting has limits you only meet in production:

Case study: Pentagon CarpetsA catalogue website and CMS for a carpet exporter, on a shared cPanel host behind Cloudflare. Its image library opened about 90 threads against an account limit of 100, so I capped them before the API starts.
Do You Need to Pay for an SSL Certificate?
Usually not. SSL, the certificate behind HTTPS, is free from Let’s Encrypt, and most hosts, GitHub Pages and Cloudflare set it up for you. Browsers mark pages without HTTPS as not secure, so every site needs one, but a paid certificate is rarely worth it for a small business.
What has changed is how long certificates last. Under a CA/Browser Forum rule passed in April 2025, the maximum validity of a public certificate fell from 398 days to 200 days on 15 March 2026. It drops to 100 days in March 2027 and 47 days in March 2029. So renewal must be automatic: ask your developer or host to confirm it, with an alert if it fails.
What Does a Website Cost to Run Each Year?
After launch, you pay every year for the domain, hosting, any paid licences and upkeep. For a static site that can be close to zero; for an online store it can be more than a static site costs to build. The table is an illustration using the ranges in this guide.
| Yearly cost | Static site | WordPress site | Online store |
|---|---|---|---|
| Domain | Free .com.np, or about 1,500 to 2,500 for a .com | Same | Same |
| Hosting | Free to about 2,000 | About 2,500 to 10,000 | About 10,000 to 60,000+ |
| SSL | Free | Free | Free |
| Paid plugins and themes | None | None, or about 9,000+ per paid licence | Often several licences |
| Maintenance (market rates) | Small changes when needed | About 2,000 to 15,000 a month | About 15,000 to 40,000 a month |
| Payment fees | None | None | Set in your eSewa, Khalti or Fonepay merchant agreement |
Maintenance is the line people forget. My guide to website maintenance in Nepal explains what a monthly plan covers.

Ask for a quoteWhich Hidden Costs Should You Budget For?
Most surprises come from things outside the build: words, photos, licences and renewals. They only hurt when nobody mentions them before work starts, so ask about each one when you compare quotes.
- Content: service pages and product descriptions take real time to write, and longer in two languages.
- Photos: a photographer for your shop or products, or licensed stock images.
- Paid themes and plugins: yearly licences in dollars. Elementor Pro, for example, starts at about NPR 9,000 a year.
- Business email: Google Workspace or Zoho on your own domain, billed per user.
- Renewals: hosting and .com domains often cost more in year two.
- VAT: 13% on many local prices, shown as a separate line in a fair quote.
Should You Hire a Freelancer, an Agency or Use a Website Builder?
A freelancer suits small and medium businesses that want to talk directly to the person building the site. An agency suits projects that need many people at once. A builder such as Wix or Shopify suits testing an idea alone, but its fees are billed monthly in dollars.
| Freelancer | Agency | DIY builder | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who does the work | The person you talk to | Several people, through an account manager | You |
| Build cost | Lowest overhead | Includes management costs | Your own time |
| Running cost | Domain, hosting and optional maintenance | The same, often with a yearly contract | A monthly plan; Shopify Basic is about NPR 4,500 a month billed yearly |
| Nepali payments | eSewa, Khalti and Fonepay built in | Depends on the agency | Check before you start |
| Moving later | Code and accounts in your name | Ask before you sign | A Wix site must stay on Wix’s servers |
Builder prices are converted at about NPR 155 to the dollar; Wix’s paid plans start at roughly NPR 2,700 to 3,000 a month. To work with one person who builds and ranks the site, see my page as a web developer in Nepal.
How Do You Get a Fixed Written Quote for a Website?
Give every developer the same short brief, then ask each for a written scope with one fixed price. Quotes only compare fairly when they describe the same site.
- Write the one job the site must do, such as phone calls, WhatsApp enquiries or online orders.
- List the pages, and the features each needs: forms, payments, bookings or logins.
- Say who supplies the text and photos, and by which date.
- Share two or three sites you like, and your budget range.
- Ask for pages, features, timeline, price, payment schedule and exclusions in writing.
- Confirm the domain, hosting and code will be in your name, and the bug-fix period after launch.
Three warning signs in a website quoteThe domain is registered in the developer’s name. There is no list of what is not included. Or the full price is due before any work is shown. Any one of these can cost you more than the build.
Website Budget Examples in Nepal: Three Illustrations
The three examples below are illustrations, not real clients. They show how the type of site, not the size of the business, sets both the build price and the yearly cost.
A Clinic in Itahari
Five pages, an enquiry form, WhatsApp and a map, with the clinic’s own text. A free .com.np and free static hosting keep the yearly cost near zero. See how I work with businesses in Itahari.
A Kathmandu Consultancy That Posts Every Week
WordPress, so staff publish news themselves. Budget for shared hosting of roughly NPR 2,500 to 10,000 a year and a monthly plan for updates and backups. Businesses in Kathmandu work with me online.
A Clothing Shop Selling Online
Products, a cart, delivery charges by area, and eSewa, Khalti and Fonepay QR. Budget for a small VPS, product photos, payment fees and maintenance. My guide to starting an online store in Nepal covers the setup.

Case study: SajilaiA car and bike rental marketplace where renters pay by scanning a QR with eSewa, Khalti, Fonepay or any bank app. Fonepay and NepalQR codes already carry the amount and booking code.
Once the site is live, people still have to find it. My guide to SEO cost in Nepal covers that budget, and the technical SEO checklist lists what I check before every launch. For WordPress, read my WordPress SEO guide.
